Segregation or Inclusivity

28th October 2025 Kala & Beena

When I saw this acrylic painting by Kala, it reminded me of my fascination with old buildings. She saw this church while walking in Boston. Most places of worship tend to be historic. There’s something about these old structures. It’s as if they are trying to communicate with you.

Often, I enter a temple and enjoy a peaceful moment. After a while, I leave feeling revitalised. That is what I experience when I visit a temple; I find quiet contemplation calming. I am sure many of you feel the same.

Unfortunately, recently, a friend of mine wanted her grandson’s baptism at a particular church. However, the priest refused because the boy’s parents married at another church. I was appalled. I could not understand why the wedding venue and the place for baptism must be the same. Then I realised it is the authority that the priest has over his congregation. Sometimes, I wonder, were churches initially meant to be places of segregation or inclusivity? Let me know your thoughts.
