A Bowl of Soup

I am thrilled to introduce a new artist to this website, Mrs Polly Edward. Her work, including this beautiful watercolour of a bowl of soup with lemon and basil leaves, resonates with our blog’s theme- the intersection of art and food.

When I see a bowl of soup, it’s not just a dish. It’s a warm, comforting embrace that can be enjoyed in any mood or weather. Whether you’re feeling good, sad, or under the weather, a bowl of soup is always a welcome sight. The fact that it can be clear, thick, cold, or hot adds to its appeal. Soup is the oldest and most universal food in the world, a culinary tradition that brings us back to our roots and warms our hearts.

One of the oldest soups, dating back to Aztec times, is Pozole, available in Mexico. It’s spicy and features hominy (whole white corn kernels) and a variety of toppings like onions, cabbage, and tortillas for that perfect texture. In every country, soups are made from locally available vegetables, each with its unique twist. In most SE Asian countries, noodle soups like Laksa are very popular. Some bread like chappati or naan often accompanies lentil soups in India. Borscht, a Ukrainian soup made with beets in stock with lacto-fermented beet juice, was declared by UNESCO in 2022. The world of soups is a rich tapestry of flavours and textures waiting to be explored.

In conclusion, I think Polly painted pumpkin soup. Let me know what you think of that bowl of soup🤗🤗.
