Confidence

Hello guysπŸ˜‰. It has been a while since I posted my musings. Sometimes, being busy is good, but I had no time to reflect😀.

I had not painted with watercolour for some time in the art class; we tend to paint mostly with acrylicπŸ˜‰. Hence, I got back to my favourite medium of paint.

I painted this winter scene from a tutorial by Ellen Crimi-Trent. As I am not a natural artist, I needed to look at pictures to paint. However, in a tutorial, I learn the techniques for creating the effect. With lots of courage, I embarked on painting a winter sceneπŸ’ƒπŸ½. To my utter dismay, my joy changed to disappointmentπŸ˜’πŸ˜’. I told myself, ” It is fine; I am only sending it to friends, and it is not for sale”, and I felt betterπŸ™‚.

To my surprise, many loved it and posted the picture in other groups. I could not believe it. Even my worst critics loved it, and yeap unbelievable😎😎 isn’t it? Then it occurred to me that when we are not confident in most things in life, we tend not to express our views or show our work to others. I know from childhood that my report card often had this remark ” you need to be more confident”. I asked my mom, ” how do I become more confident? ” She said, ” with time, you will learn from your mistakes, and when you improve, you will be more confident”. I suppose that explains the reason for my surprise. I am an amateur artist, and with time, my winter scene will be betterπŸ˜…πŸ™.

Thank you for supporting my art and constantly boosting my confidenceπŸ™πŸ™πŸ˜Š. I appreciate that, my dear friends πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™. The best compliment was when some of the comments were, β€œ oh, I can feel how cold it is, or how I wish I could be in your painting; it is so serene”. By the way, the two birds are cardinal.

  1. Hi Beena, your mum was wise. You develop confidence over time when you learn from your mistakes and keep making improvements to overcome them.

    1. Hi Jen

Learning from mistakes is a good way. But I think supportive words are important too. Sometimes when there is no praise, it can be disheartening.

      Thanks Jen
