Forest of Fireflies

Completing my first large canvas acrylic painting was a moment of pure joy. It wasn’t just about feeling happy; it was the satisfaction of creating something truly good.

Many of you loved this painting, which depicts the forest reflected in the water, resembling it being filled with countless fireflies. I experienced pain while painting this, as I had an impinged shoulder from my artistic work. My art teachers were very supportive, ensuring I took thirty-minute breaks and stretched.

Many of you kept telling me that I have talent. I don’t have talent, but I am very persistent. I took up art during the lockdown because I was stressed, as my beloved dog Mika had undergone surgery. She came home after ten days and resumed making me happy again. During those days, I used to doodle and share my doodles with close friends. I had some leftover poster colours from a project in my department and used make-up brushes to paint. Art became my refuge during those difficult times, allowing me to express my emotions and find solace. Everyone supported and encouraged me.

Then, when the shops reopened, I went to buy some paints and joined an art class. I have never stopped, although my art teachers were surprised that I actually continued with my lessons. So to anyone out there who is hesitating to take up art, please be encouraged to do so. It is not talent that gets you across the finishing line, but constant practice. Art is therapy, and we all need that these days.
