Hi everyone, I posted this painting of the Moroccan man with some trepidation. I created that painting in May, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. However, I received many supportive remarks, even from my critics.
Riccardo sent me photos of a man walking in a souk beside a spice stall. He was very dark, with numerous black spots on his face. His face was heavily lined, like someone who had lived a tough life. Why don’t I paint him since he is an ordinary person?
Nevertheless, the painting was challenging, especially in capturing that expression of concern. The feedback I received was a lovely surprise. KJL’s comment was especially amusing. He said, “The man wonders if romance has gone with the wind.”
Many felt he was wondering if his lamb tagine was ready, while others believed he was worrying about money. One commented if his woman had left him, and some thought he regretted having too many wives or women in his life. The variety of interpretations made the experience even more interesting.
But I am delighted that many recognised the clear expression of worry in the painting. Despite my initial hesitation, I am pleased that I posted it. This experience has taught me to be more confident, just like Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind. Despite all she faced, she triumphed in the end. One must never lose sight of Hope, as that is what keeps us going.
