Manga

6th October 2025 Tia & Beena

Tia surprised me with this manga painting. She is a versatile artist who explores various media. Here, she has created this cartoon, a form of art with a rich history in Japan that has evolved over the centuries. Tia’s work demonstrates the enduring appeal and adaptability of manga.

Manga, a rich form of narrative art, has its origins in Japan and was influenced by Western-style cartoons in 19th-century publications. Its history can be traced back to scrolls from the 12th and 13th centuries. The term ‘manga’ was first used in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the characteristic wide-eyed style associated with manga appears in illustrations from 19th-century shojo magazines.

Over the past few years, manga has become extremely popular, especially among the younger generation. Japanese creators have produced specific comics aimed at different age groups, including girls (shojo), boys (shonen), young men (seinen), and adults (seijin). These comics have provided a way for each group to explore and understand their unique challenges, making manga a meaningful and relatable part of their growing years.

I am deeply thankful to Tia for introducing me to the captivating world of manga through her painting. Her artwork has enlightened me to the beauty and intricacy of manga art. Tia, your contribution is priceless, and I eagerly anticipate more of your work.
