Merman?

Hello thereπŸ’ƒπŸ½. I wish to write about that Mermaid I painted as part of our class assignment. I painted her in acrylic, which took about 7 to 8 hours. To get that effect, I needed many layers of colours. The skin tone was challenging as I had to depict a tinge of green to denote her underwater world. I needed a slight pinkish hue for her skin to depict the blush on her cheeks. The best part was painting the bubbles. It is a tip we learnt from Angela, a student in the class. I need to paint white on the bottom part of the caps of the paint tubes. Then, press it down on the paper and smudge a bit to get that effect. That was fun🀣🀣🀣. The scales on her body are all about adding more layers of white, yellow and gold colours.

Mermaids have fascinated me from a young ageπŸ€”πŸ« . How about you? But today, I learnt about MermanπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Have you heard about Merman? I wonder why I never knew about Merman. There are many stories about Mermaid. Did anyone watch the recent movie The Little Mermaid? I hope one day someone will make a movie about the Merman. We all need some fantasy, just like my Mermaid blowing bubblesπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

  2. Hi Beena, your mermaid painting is so beautiful. I love it very very much. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  3. Dr Beena,
    i still remember reading
“The Forsaken Merman” by Matthew Arnold. Although i was not an Arnold devotee, i found that poem quite upsetting. Upsetting because i felt empathetically close to the Merman.
Your Mermaid vision as always is beautiful, charming. Thank you.

    1. I am happy that I am getting educated via my art and the comments I receive on my stories. Its never too late to learn:):)

  4. Beena this painting is so rapturous. Connected with the core of something within me. You were able to bring out the total beauty of the scene watching from behind. I have always loved being in the water for hours swimming and diving and collecting shells. It is like deja vu.
No words … speechless as I stare at the painting each time 😍

    1. My dear,

I can’t believe that this painting evoked such profound feelings but in a good way.

      Much love
      Beena
