Pain and Anguish

I am excited to share a striking acrylic painting by Ms Lavendar Jong, featuring a powerful depiction of a lion and a lioness. Through her masterful brushwork, she conveys the profound, almost palpable emotion between these majestic creatures, drawing the viewer deeply into their story.

There is a subtle undertone of sorrow in the artworka feeling of loss that lingers in the animals’ gazes. One wonders if they mourn a missing cub, or perhaps the lion confronts the inevitable passage of time, preparing to leave the pride and relinquish his role to a younger rival.

In the wild, this social structure is called a prideusually made up of one to four dominant males and ten to fifteen females who work together to raise the cubs. However, male lions seldom stay for long. Eventually, the relentless passage of youth forces them out, leading the older males to wander alone.

The painting exudes both pain and melancholy, making it impossible not to sense the burden of their shared experience. What emotions does this evocative scene evoke in you?

  1. Bathed in the quiet glow of a setting sun, these two lions rest in a moment that feels timeless—strength softened by tenderness. Their closeness speaks without words: of trust, companionship, and a love that endures beyond the wild’s harshness. The warm hues and gentle brushstrokes invite us to pause and remember that even in the fiercest of worlds, there is always space for peace, connection, and belonging.
