Passion for Peonies

3rd September 2024 Ms Wendy & Beena

Hello, everyone. I am delighted to post a Chinese watercolour painting by Ms Wendy. She is very talented in Chinese-style painting and has depicted the flowers beautifully.

While many artists paint peonies, these flowers hold a unique significance in Chinese culture. They symbolize wealth and prosperity, a meaning that dates back to their cultivation by Emperors and other important figures. Their vibrant colours also represent passion and warmth in Feng Shui.

Since early history, peonies have been cultivated in China. They were used to flavour food. In the sixth and seventh centuries, ornamental ones were cultivated. However, during the Tang dynasty, they truly became popular, grown in Imperial gardens and adored by many. Since the 10th century, peonies have been grown everywhere in China, and Luoyang became the seat of peonies.

I’m grateful for your time and interest in Chinese art and culture. I hope you found the history of peonies as fascinating as I do and enjoyed Ms. Wendy’s beautiful painting. Thank you for your continued support. 🤗🤗
