Pensive Mood

When I completed my first watercolour painting of a young girl’s portrait, I was surprised to find that she appeared Caucasian, despite the photograph I used being of an Asian girl. This unexpected transformation left me pondering, but I remain hopeful for improvement. I was pleased to capture the pensive expression on her face.

ย

Most people thought she was either being forced to marry someone against her will or that she had broken up with her boyfriend. Many believed she seemed sad. However, when I painted her, I didn’t perceive her as unhappy; I saw her as having some profound reflections. She might have thoughts about a relationship. When we are young, it is easy to experience heartbreak. Nevertheless, as one grows older, one realises that it wasn’t meant to be. All the challenges serve as life lessons. One can never be overly cautious and avoid mistakes in life. Otherwise, one is not truly living, right?

What do you think about the painting and the story behind it? I’m eager to hear your thoughts.

  1. Dear Beena,

This to me is perfect in every way ..the profile..the proprtions…love the expression..very thoughtful..there is a gentleness to the expression and the hair is amazing (eyes and hair are very difficult to get right)..and you have done it superbly.. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

As for interpretations by various people on what she is thinking etc.. To me that is not important..just what it makes me feel is what matters to me

Nothing is ever unimportant or imperfect..I look at Dali’s or Picasso’s work etc and think where is perfectionism there..its the feeling ..the emotion it creates in the viewer

And this viewer loves the work..๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

So..keep painting and share that joy with all of us..

  2. Dear Beena
This painting is one of your master piece. From having followed your journey through your painting I find your portraits are turning out great.
Regarding her expression .. let her hold the secret to it which none of us even in our dreams can visit or have access it. The mystery adds to the charm of the expression and the artist.. wishing you all the best beens ..
