1st January Mathew George & Beena
When I first laid eyes on Mathew George’s completed cross-stitch masterpiece, I was truly awestruck. The artistry and realism are breathtaking—each stitch brings the subject to life with remarkable clarity. Over five months, Mathew meticulously crafted a 14.3×14.3-inch panel, incorporating an astonishing 40,000 stitches. I had the privilege of seeing the project in its early stages, but nothing prepared me for the final result. Even the reverse side of the work is impeccably neat, a testament to his dedication and skill.
Pope Francis is a globally recognised figure whose compassion and humility resonate with millions. While the world knows him well, what struck me most was the Pope’s perspective: he believed in the inherent goodness of individuals, regardless of their religious background. This outlook surprised me and left a lasting impression. The Pope continually emphasised that acts of love, mercy, and selfless service define a person’s worth—echoing the very heart of Jesus’s teachings—rather than rigid religious labels.
In today’s world, where division often overshadows unity, this perspective feels particularly powerful and welcome. I am often asked about my religious affiliation, as if it defines who I am. Yet I find myself questioning why such distinctions matter. Shouldn’t our actions—how we treat others and the kindness we extend—speak louder than our declared beliefs? I choose to focus on the impact of what I do rather than the label I carry.
