7th January 2022 Dr Beena
Hello guys. I hope everyone had a peaceful New year. Look at this painting I did and find the mistake😊😉. Yeap, it is surreal! Before we jump into my thoughts, let me explain how I did this painting. It is in watercolour, my favourite medium😊. I used a candle for the fireworks. Candles have many uses, besides as a source of light. Sometimes, lighting a scented candle creates a peaceful ambience. Before the advent of electricity, candlelight helped us to study and carry on with life after dark. But this is the first time I learnt something new. Candle wax acts as a resistance to paint; hence part of the paper will remain white. So, if you wish to create waves on the water, you can use a candle for effect.
Why do I say the painting looks surreal? Did you notice how Zara and Mika sit on a jetty and watch the fireworks? Just reflect, for those who have pets, you will know that animals are afraid of fireworks more of the loud sounds associated with them☹☹. Many will hide under a chair or in a cupboard. Animals in a cage will pace around with agitation. Most of us are only familiar with fireworks associated with celebrations.
Nonetheless, those in war zones will associate those sounds with an explosion of bombs☹☹. Hence fireworks have a different meaning: for some, it is a celebration, for others, it is fear☹. This new year was quiet for me. I spent a quiet evening with my two gals. Once the fireworks started, Mika went berserk☹. It took a while before she calmed down. Hence, I say, my painting does not capture reality😊. I painted a happy scene with my gals enjoying an evening of fireworks😊. Now that is surreal😊. By the way, I loved those buildings in the background. I thought that was pretty neat compared to my earlier paintings😉😉. Well, as they say, practice makes perfect.
On that note, I wish everyone a New Year filled with peace, hope, joy, excellent health and may our days bring cheer to others too😊. Thought for the day, why do we celebrate every New Year with fireworks?

Happy New Year Beena. May 2022 bring many new and beautiful paintings and 1,000 stories to go with them :-).
Allan
Yes Allan we need to keep the stories alive with messages that give realistic hope😃😃😃
Dear Beena..love the colours and the details..why do you say there is a mistake.. you have the freedom to express yourself in which ever way…thats the power of Art.
On that note wishing you loads of positivity abd happiness in 2022..❤🎊🌹
🤣🤣🤣 what I meant is that it is surreal for dogs to watch the fireworks so calmly🤪🤪🤪. Glad you liked it
Hi Beena ! Wish you a happy and peaceful New Year too ! Loved the fireworks in your painting especially the candle effect😊.do u keep the candle grease on or scrape it away when u finish?
Also thought provoking is different perceptions on fireworks ..I love the lights and multicolours .Now I realise it’s because I never had to experience a war first hand ! And yes it’s most unlikely that Mika and Zara would settle down happily to watch fireworks 😃.Still I love their peaceful and ‘bosom friends’ look . Lovely!
Yea knowing me I always have various ways to at life. Regarding the candle, no you dont clean it off. Its left there n paint is not taken up in that area. Try it and its amazing😁😁😁
Beautiful picture Beena! My dogs are very scared of fireworks (and thunder), although, and over the years, Ziva has calmed down quite a bit. I have to say though, that 2 huskies in our family simply take it as a treat to stay on the balcony to enjoy the firework show!
Happy New Year to you all near and far,
Thanks Annie for sharing about your fur babies and fireworks. Different dogs behave differently just like us humans🤣🤣🤣
DearDr Beena
Thanks for the new year🎇
Same to you 🙏🏿
Surreal looks ethereal,
Nice technique, maybe reflection on china ,water , glass sunrays could be given this treatment too.
Thank you for the tips. Will surely take note when I paint on such subjects. 😄😄
