Sunflower Series 1

28th November 2025 Beena

Hi, I want to share a series of Sunflowers painted by different artists. Mani’s abstract sunflower inspired me, so I created two versions. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these artworks and the variety of styles we’ve explored.

One day, while I was walking along the road, I saw a row of sunflowers and took a photograph. I painted this using watercolour. The second is Claude Monet’s Vase of Sunflowers. I have never seen this painting before, and I painted my version with gouache. The world has seen Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, which was painted over five days in August 1888.

Then I asked Nandakumar and Wendy if they could paint sunflowers, and they did. Lathika allowed me to post her sunflower. Therefore, we now have six sunflower series, each painted in a different style.

Why was Van Gogh drawn to painting sunflowers? He was experiencing psychosis, and the colour yellow symbolised hope. The yellow hues represented friendship, gratitude, and optimism. I am thankful to my artist friends for helping me post these sunflowers as symbols of our friendship formed through art. Please share your thoughts on this project.
