11th November 2026 Beena, Xing Xing & Yumi
Capturing Xing in motion, dancing with her kite while Yumi followed, was a joy to paint. The scene lives vividly in my memory—a moment of childhood wonder frozen in time. Using acrylics on a 9×9 inch canvas board, I finally brought to life an image that has lingered in my mind for a year, waiting for the courage to be realized.
Today, as Xing turns 11, I marvel at how much she has grown—taller, more graceful, and full of personality. Our shared walks with Yumi often filled me with laughter at her playful spirit. I remember when she invited me to cycle with her through our quaint, cobblestoned neighbourhood. Though I was used to smooth roads, Xing’s encouragement gave me confidence to try. She always waited for me, affectionately calling me “Bro”—a nickname that never failed to make me smile. Sadly, a minor fall ended her cycling adventures, but her fearless spirit left a lasting impression.
Yet I continued cycling, inspired by Xing’s encouragement. My gratitude for her runs deep. One unforgettable day, while I was swimming, I heard her calling “Yumi.” To my astonishment, she had found Yumi wandering the common grounds—somehow, Yumi had managed to escape in search of me. Xing’s quick thinking and kindness meant the world, as she scooped up Yumi and brought her safely back.
I am forever indebted to my young friend, whose kindness and spirit have left an indelible mark on my life. On her birthday, I wish her boundless happiness and the same vibrant energy she brings to every moment, just like the girl captured in my painting. As a small token of my gratitude, I gifted her that painting for her special day.
