Away from the Maddening Crowd

 27th September 2025 Beena

Hello, everyone. I was genuinely surprised by the overwhelming response to my latest painting. Riccardo sent me a photo he took during his holiday. It showed a single house on a tiny island in Croatia, Sitsko-žutska otočna skupina. I painted it using watercolours. I thought it looked quite dull compared to my usual paintings with vibrant colours.

While I was painting this, I was feeling down, and it gave me a sense of peace. However, when I shared the painting, many responded by saying they would love to be in such a place away from family and friends. They longed for that space. As I didn’t want to pry, knowing everyone has their own struggles, it made me realise something: that even with people around us, it doesn’t mean our lives are secure and full of happiness. The adverse events that happen in our lives become our secret. We try to deal with them alone, without support from others. We then wish to be in a peaceful place away from everyone.

Conversely, I received comments from some who fear such quiet places because of safety concerns. They also mentioned that, despite being in environments surrounded by family and friends, they experience loneliness. We must recognise and understand the complexity of our experiences, where safety and loneliness can coexist.

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this. It’s clear that many of us are feeling overwhelmed with our lives right now. Sharing our experiences can help us understand each other better and perhaps find ways to support one another. I am glad that many have expressed their innermost thoughts based on my art.

  1. Like the title of your writing on this piece of art work. Don’t all of us long for that space to be alone, to do what we wish to do at our own pace, to listen to nature, to heal, to let our thoughts wander and to forget time? However being social creatures we cannot afford to be in such a state for long periods as loneliness will set in and a mind left idle for too long might invite unpleasant consequences. There should be a balance in all that we do and personally I would love to destress for a couple of weeks in such a place.

  2. Dearest Beena how are you. Sometimes we will feel low esp. Coz we are alone but you have your doggie for company. I am going through very bad time hopefully once the properties are sold and move to another place I will start my u turn !!! When we are stagnated we feel suffocated by our past and we seem to relive and the mind gets saturated with a lot negativity. We just have to push ourselves out Take care my Lov to you and bebe
