Eid Mubarak

23rd April 2023 Beena

Hello everyone. Let me wish all my Muslim friends Eid Mubarak. The festivities mark the end of the fasting month. It is a significant festival for all Muslims globally. I did this artwork using the Nagomi technique.

Nagomi Art is a form of Japanese art healing founded in Japan, using pastels and fingers to create gentle, transparent, warm and heart-touching art through simple yet unique painting techniques.

I told my two art teachers I wanted to create the Eid greeting using this technique. Though difficult, the two young teachers, Stella and Jia Yang, assured me they would make my wish come true. I was so touched when we completed this artwork🫠🫠.

I used soft pastels to create this artwork. I need to shave the colouring onto paper and use my fingers to blend the colours. As there were so many lanterns that I had to cut, it was tricky😰😨. However, in the end, I was delighted🥲🥲

Fasting takes work. However, when one can complete a month of fasting, it gives a sense of purpose. Life can have challenges, but we need not despair. Solutions may be hard to find, but we may adapt to new circumstances. I will not attempt Nagomi’s artwork alone at home as it is messy. However, in the art studio, I feel more confident. Isn’t that how we feel when facing critical life stages? When we have support, it becomes easier to bear the pain.

Let me know your thoughts about Nagomi’s artwork. To all my Muslim friends, I wish you a happy Eid Mubarak😊🙏.

  6. This is truly spiritual and to have done it in the Nagomi technique is inspirational to say the least!

    1. Hi Nikki

Glad that you have a different perspective to my artwork. I felt it look ethereal, hahaha my imagination, maybe😊😊😊.

  7. Dr Beena I am so intrigued by your beautiful Nagomi Art painting but couldn’t understand meaning of the word “Nagomi”.
I looked it up and in Japan it means living harmoniously and it also can be similar to love which is the most important in life 😊🙏🙏
    Love the painting 💗💗

  8. Excellent Beena, we’ll done!! The texture of the painting does look soft and peaceful complemented by the vibrant ‘sharpish’ colors of the streamers and lanterns.
Didn’t know much about the Nagomi technique – and it was fascinating to learn that the technique gives as much peace and joy to the artist as to the viewers, or even more so. Is that true?

    1. Hi Baiju if we live in the moment, we can cherish moments of peace. Life can never be in a constant mode of serenity. We can strive for it and cherish it when it happens. Art is full of surprises for me. The theme of Eid was my attempt to create a greeting. But it gave me a sense of accomplishment.

Hope it had a similar impact for the readers too.
