Light Shines Only In Darkness

My constant critic, Mr M, had a lot to teach me this morning. However, I embraced his feedback because I didn’t think he was criticising just to hurt my art. I used coloured pencils and soft pastels to create that lamp against a dark background, accompanied by a wall of leaves. I am using soft pastels for the first time.

Mr M, with his unique perspective, does not mince words when it comes to art. He pointed out that the lamp was lopsided, a fact I was aware of but unsure how to correct. He demonstrated a solution by editing the picture using the writing tool on our phones. This experience, where I learned from my mistake, made me realise the value of constructive criticism. I have had critics who point out my mistakes, but few who offer solutions. Their remarks, I now see, did not truly help me.

Thus, the lesson I learnt today is that just as the light from a lamp shines in a dark place, it will not shine when the surroundings are bright. Mr M, my invaluable mentor, has been my guiding light for quite some time. Thank you, Mr M🥸🥸😉.
