19th June 2023 Ann Chin and Beena
Hello thereππ. Today, I am posting Ann Chin’s watercolour work on a market scene in Penang. She has captured the essence of what I love about marketsππ½ππ½.
I find markets rather interesting. When I was young, my mom used to bring me to the market to buy traditional kueh on Saturday mornings. It isn’t quiet with lots of adults who talk loudlyππ. Those days, we had these wicker baskets where we placed all our goodies. I never liked to go to the side where they sell fish, meat and other live creatures as it was wet and smellyβΉβΉ.
However, as an adult, I love markets with the noise, hawkers trying to get your attention and the vast array of products. Whenever my friends visit me, they love to go to the market. By the way, we also have a native market with exotic productsπππ. The markets have evolved with time. With advances in science and knowledge of diseases, sanitation has improved tremendouslyππ.
I have yet to attempt to paint a market scene as I find it daunting. There is so much to take note of while painting. My wish is that one day, I can paint a market scene. I hope you enjoy her work. Please share your thoughts on markets in your place; thank youπππ.

I love that she has the motorcyclist at the centre of the lorong. It is so Penang. Motorcyclists are the king of the road in Penang.π
