Hello, everyone. I’ve shared an artwork of a snake, brought to life with the vibrant hues of coloured pencils and the shimmer of gold poster colour. This piece, a celebration of the Chinese New Year, is a testament to the beauty and allure of the snake🫠.

This year, the snake is depicted as a zodiac symbol. The lunar calendar has 12 animal signs for each year, reflecting Chinese philosophy and culture. The Rat is the first animal, and the Pig is the twelfth. In addition, the five elements of water, earth, fire, wood, and metal are assigned to each year. There will be an element associated with each animal over a twelve-year cycle. There are more if you are interested to read about this zodiac calendar.

Many of you liked the snake, though some said it was scary😱. The fear stems from evolutionary times when men had to survive against animals or reptiles that would kill them. They discovered that snakes were one of the first to detect and manage to survive. However, if you ask me if I would have painted the snake, the answer is “NO.” But being in an art class gives me many opportunities to explore my skills. Challenging myself with creativity is a great stress buster. I would love to hear from my readers what your thoughts are🤗🤗. I wish those celebrating this Lunar New Year a peaceful Chinese New Year. May the Year of the Snake bring peace, joy, health and prosperity to all.
