Lanterns Sway In The Wind

12th October 2024 Ms Kheng

My friend and I took a trip to Medan and Lake Toba, Sumatra, Indonesia, sometime during the beginning of this year, 2024. Samosir Island was included in the tour. A beautiful beach called Batu Kuda Beach is situated at the tip of this island.  We stepped down from our bus and walked to the beach when we arrived.

The walkway was beautifully decorated with lanterns and colourful umbrellas. That scene inspired me decided to paint it. I used the pointillism method to paint this scene, which is etched in my memory.

I wrote the poem in Chinese and would love to read your comments about the painting and my poem. As I know some international readers cannot read the Chinese version, I translated the poem to English and hope the poem’s essence is not lost in translation.

Your comments on the painting and poem are crucial to me. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and engaging in a meaningful discussion with you🤗🤗.

笼高高的悬挂中,

发出微微的光彩,

颜六色的雨伞,

陪同灯笼起舞,

五彩缤纷的颜色,

呈現一副美丽的画,

让人陶醉心房。

The dangling lanterns,

illuminating the sky.

Along,

they dance together with colourful umbrellas.

Portraying a beautiful masterpiece of art.

Not only people are fascinated,

they are intoxicated,

with the amazing scenery……

  1. Hi Kheng,

Thank you so much for painting your travel and writing a poem to that memory. It will always remain here for many to read and see the beauty through your writing and painting.

    Thanks
    Beena

  2. Hi Wang!
A fitting caption to share sights of your trip in a poem; with a painting to feature your holiday. Well done!

  3. Vivid images described and personified like an inviting pompous arrival welcome for visitors! Nicely weaved with a road leading to explore further. Thanks Kheng for sharing one of your memory lanes.

  4. Beautiful art piece and beautiful poem, Kheng Boi. May God blessed you with a colourful and liberating life.

  5. What great details you can remember what you saw in travels. Love the pointilism way you draw the colourful lanterns and umbrellas really light up our moods. Beautiful.

The accompanying poem is also beautiful. Keep it up Wang!

  6. What great details you can remember what you saw in travels. Love the pointilism way you draw the colourful lanterns and umbrellas really light up our moods. Beautiful.

The accompanying poem is also light and dreamy.
