Once again, our talented young artist Tia, a regular contributor, has captured the magic of Hogwarts at night. This iconic castle, imagined by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter series, stands as a symbol of wonder and adventure for readers around the world.

During my childhood, I was captivated by Enid Blyton’s boarding school stories. Her Mallory Towers series, following Darrell Rivers from her first form to becoming Head Girl in the Sixth Form, transported readers to a world of camaraderie, mischief, and personal growth. Inspired by her eldest daughter’s experiences at Benenden School during WWII, Blyton infused her stories with authenticity and charm, drawing from diary entries to create episodes that felt both real and enchanting.

As a child, stories always filled me with wonder. Even as an adult, I was drawn into the world of Harry Potter—I devoured the first four books with fascination. But I soon realized that the series was steeped in a relentless struggle against darkness, demanding its young heroes to constantly outwit evil. This ongoing battle mirrored the harshness of reality, overshadowing the escapism I once found in Blyton’s tales. Her books, by contrast, offered pure adventure and friendship, unmarred by ever-present malice. Despite owning the fifth and sixth Harry Potter books, I chose not to read them. For me, books should provide a refuge from life’s cruelty, not deepen my exhaustion.

I realize my perspective differs greatly from devoted Harry Potter fans. I would love to hear from readers who have experienced both Blyton’s enchanting worlds and the magical, yet challenging, universe of Harry Potter.
