Knotty Yarns and Success

30th April 2026 Mr Mani & Beena

When Mani sent me his ink-and-pen painting titled “Knotty Yarns,” I couldn’t help but smile at the brilliance of the title. His ability to render intricate lines never fails to captivate me, with each stroke revealing layers of complexity and intention.

Yet this morning, the knots took on a deeper meaning for me. They became a metaphor for those moments when our thoughts and emotions tangle, leaving us trapped and overwhelmed. The weight of uncertainty can feel unbearable, and escape seems impossible. Have you ever found yourself in such a place?

I have faced many tight spots in life. Now I remind myself to pause and breathe—deep, deliberate breaths that steady my heart and mind. With every exhalation, I tell myself: this too shall pass. Every hardship is fleeting; nothing endures forever. While we cannot always change what happens to us, we can shape our response and, in doing so, reclaim our sense of urgency. Not every experience needs to be labelled as success or failure—sometimes simply enduring is its own quiet victory.

Isn’t it remarkable that we can embrace our failures, even though we’ve been taught to chase only success? I recall a conversation with my 87-year-old friend, who once called me a success. When I pressed her for details, she simply cited my achievements. But true success, I believe, runs far deeper. If we can greet each morning with purpose, eager to find meaning in our day and to extend it to others, we have truly succeeded. Our worth lies not only in our accomplishments but also in the ways we enrich the lives around us. What are your thoughts on this?
