Red Mountain

5th August 2024 Joy

I painted the Red Mountain in watercolour. I hope you enjoy the story about it.

In this quiet village looms a fiery red mountain called Hongshan or Red Mountain, with the reddish-ember colour of Permian purple sandstone. The Red Mountain, or Hongshan, is Urumqi’s unique sign and symbol of its historical and cultural background. In Mongolian, Urumqi means “beautiful pastures” and is the capital of Xinjiang province, China.

The Red Mountain looks like a huge dragon with its head extending toward the Urumqi River in the now Red Mountain Park. At its peak is a temple and pagoda holding many wonderful legends amongst its unique charm and beautiful variety of landscapes: caves, waterfalls, day/night scenery parks and the tremendous view from the Lookout Point.
