Last Friday, I hesitated to share this painting—a rustic barn scene with an old truck, inspired by a photo Kala sent me. The image’s grey sky and sombre barn evoked melancholy, but I saw the potential for transformation. Choosing acrylics allowed me to navigate the complex perspectives and make corrections along the way. Through many adjustments, I infused the scene with vibrant, warm yellows, shifting the mood from gloom to joy.
When I finally posted it, I was moved by the outpouring of appreciation from viewers.Yet, some viewers admitted they would never want to visit such a place, describing it as “scary” and isolated. I understand their perspective—rural settings can feel lonely to some. On the other hand, many found the tranquil scene inviting, even expressing a desire to retire there for a peaceful escape from city life. Their contrasting reactions made me reflect on my own preferences.
Personally, I’ve never felt at home in the city—the stifling heat, the absence of birdsong, and the concrete landscape leave me longing for something more natural. Still, complete isolation brings its own fears and uncertainties. Life, I’ve learned, is about seeking balance, even if it’s elusive. Most of us learn to adapt to our surroundings and make the best of our circumstances. I’d love to hear your thoughts—do you crave the peace of the countryside, the energy of the city, or something in between? Thank you for taking the time to read my reflections. I also posted a painting by Kala under “Rustic Scene Series 2”.
