Hello, art enthusiasts! Remember those vibrant jewel-toned leaves I shared as my Friday greeting? That was a watercolour piece I created. What made it unique was the multiple layers I used to create a striking contrast between the leaves and the background. And here’s the twist-I used white paint to accentuate the veins of the leaves, adding a whole new dimension to the artwork.
I want to share a personal challenge I faced with traditional watercolour techniques. We’re often taught to use masking fluid or wax, or to preserve the white of the paper from the start. But for me, these methods were difficult. I tried to keep the paper’s white, but even that didn’t work. So, I found my own approach by using white watercolour paint. It’s not as vibrant as gouache or acrylic, so I had to layer it many times. In the end, I was happy with the result.
In summary, sometimes it is beneficial to break certain rules to achieve your goals, as long as you do not endanger others in the process.
