16th October 2025 Mrs Lathika & Beena
I am tackling a challenging topic: portrait drawing in any medium. Here, I will share a series of Mrs Lathika’s portrait artworks. She painted her son in oil, and I can see how beautifully she captured his laughter, a testament to her mastery of the medium. She also drew her daughter sleeping using charcoal and pencil, showcasing her skill in capturing delicate details. The third piece is a pencil drawing of a young girl in a sari, laughing, and the final work is of a mature lady in charcoal, demonstrating her versatility and control.
Many artists hesitate to create portraits because it is challenging to get the proportions right, and any small mistake becomes more noticeable. Often, people can spot such errors. It is not easy to capture emotions, achieve the correct colour tone, or create the 3D effect on a 2D paper or canvas.
Therefore, I commend Lathika for her bravery in exploring these areas without hesitation. She has effectively captured the essence of her subjects with excellent technique and colour combination. Her contributions to the art community are priceless, and we appreciate her willingness to share her work. Well done, please continue to draw and post at this website, thank you very much.
