Gnarled Tree

26th March 2026 Kala & Beena

Kala’s acrylic painting of a tree with gnarled roots immediately drew my attention and sparked my imagination. The complex, twisting roots told a story of struggle and resilience, skillfully depicted with both technical mastery and emotional depth. Achieving such a perspective is no easy task, yet Kala’s experienced skill brings life to the canvas. Inspired, I felt compelled to consider what this painting evoked in me.

For a tree to develop such dramatic root formations, it must endure and persevere in one place for decades. These roots bear the marks of countless battles—against drought, nutrient starvation, harsh climates, and the limitations of their own species. Each twist and turn tells of adaptation, survival, and the relentless will to thrive despite adversity.

Don’t we also feel contorted and strained when faced with relentless obstacles? Lately, I find myself deeply relating to that sense of being twisted by hardship. Perhaps, beneath their bark, these trees experience their own silent pain as they struggle just to survive. What do you think?
