Cooking As Therapy

5th October 2024 Beena

Hey everyone! I’ve been getting some amusing comments about the watercolour painting I shared on Friday. It features onions, garlic, and spring onions, and I’ve had a lot of questions about how I achieved those delicate skin layers.

Firstly, let me explain about the watercolour. Watercolour is a transparent medium. Hence, to create delicate skin, I had to layer on when the first layer was dry. To create depth, I added darker shades to the edge of the skin to define that layer.

Many were quick to comment that they didn’t know how to cook🫨. Hmm……….., that’s interesting🤔. The first step for survival is to learn how to cook. We’re all on this journey of learning and growing together. There will be many errors, but with practice, it gets better. For me, cooking and painting are the same. Both are therapeutic. We need complete focus to perform both activities. Cooking is a form of meditation. We give our hyperactive brains some time to rest.

We live in a fast-paced world, and we need skills to manage our stress. So why not learn cooking skills? I have learned to cook over the years, and since the lockdown, I have become much better at it🤩. Let me know your thoughts on cooking or any other habits that help with stress management🤗🤗.
