Frog loves to Read

21st March 2025 Beena

Hello guys. I posted this painting of a frog reading a book of poems. I painted this in watercolour after seeing a similar painting on Pinterest. The frog is relaxing on a brilliant red sofa. I painted the couch with an initial wash of lemon yellow and raw sienna to retain the effect of light. I tried to make this frog lifelike by having shadows in the background.

Last week, I was feeling stressed, so I decided to paint something simple. As I immersed myself in the process, I found my worries melting away. When I finished my painting, my mood had lifted, and I felt energised. The therapeutic power of painting is truly remarkable. I encourage you to give it a try and experience the rejuvenating effect it can have on your spirit.

However, I wish to talk about reading. When I was young, I loved reading. My sisters called me “bookworm”. My thirst for reading books was so intense that my father would get me books. These days, I don’t read as much as I did when I was young. Mainly because we get so much information online. But the joy of reading a book curled up in bed or a chair on a rainy day, with the sound of raindrops on the window, is a feeling I cherish. It’s a simple pleasure that we often overlook in this digital age. Let me know what you think about my musings on reading or the comic painting🫠🫠.

  1. Hi Beena .Love ur painting ! What a content frog!
Can one curl up like this with a laptop/ mobile or ‘notebook’?
Our imagination can run as far as it can when we read the print form ..
    The delicious smell of paper😊
No an e book can never truly replace the feel of a paperback
Thanks for bringing up the topic of books with this lovely painting

    1. My dear

That was my intent in painting this frog. I find that reading has lost its appeal. More people have short attention span and find reading rather boring. I love the idea, when one can curl up and read and just do nothing else but read. I remember those days when I would read for hours and regurgitate the story to my mom and sisters during lunch and dinners. Yea, those meal times ended up being long conversation times.

  2. Hi Beena

Looks as though he’s actually reading !!
