Hello everyone. Hope wherever you are that you are safe. Each day brings in more unpleasant news. Hence, I thought I would introduce you to something new. I learnt something in my art class. It is called Art Nouveau😊. I had no clue what it was about this art. Our teacher gave a short description and gave us some samples of insects to choose to draw. I chose the humble bumblebee😊.
I will give a short description of Art Nouveau as it is an extensive topic. It came into prominence before WWI. The sinuous curves of plants and flowers like Lillies often inspire this form of art. The art form has inspired interior design, graphic arts, jewellery, furniture, metalwork, ceramics, glass art and textiles. Some famous ones are Lamps by Tiffany, the Sagrada Familia basilica in Barcelona, Stairway of Petit Palais in Paris, art by Gustav Klimt and the list goes on. Many artisans created jewellery pieces in this art nouveau style.
I did this work using colour pencils. I have two types of bumblebees surrounded by circles which I think look like glass bangles. I feel the smaller green ones can be brooches😊. I guess my imagination is running wild now😊. The difficult task was to create that hair on the bees. I hope I did construct that look finally😊. It was not easy to define the transparency of the wings. Finally, the art teacher suggested that I use some gold paint to make my art pop😊.
I love bumblebees. I find them to be such gentle creatures going about doing their work. I wish there would be more gentleness in this world. I hope I have instilled some curiosity in this relatively unknown area of art. You can learn more about it as it is way too long for me to describe that art. Till the following musings, stay safe😉.
