Forest Bathing

24th September 2025 Angela & Beena

Angela’s acrylic painting of the bamboo forest is truly a masterpiece. Her unique perspective of the bamboo trees evokes a sense of serenity, much like a peaceful forest walk. I’m grateful for her talent and the beauty she brings to our lives.

Forest walks in Japan are called “shinrin-yoku” or “forest bathing”. The peacefulness and beauty of the surroundings are truly refreshing. Many places in Japan are well-known for such walks. Some are simple, while others are more challenging. What matters most is that these walks offer physical and mental health benefits.

Even if you cannot go to Japan for such walks, I suggest you find somewhere nearby where you can walk safely. Walking offers many benefits. With so much emphasis on urban planning, many natural walking areas are lost to new developments. Therefore, finding a place to walk might be a luxury. However, if you can, look for a park or a place with trees and appreciate them for being there.

I would love to hear comments from anyone who has been for “forest bathing” or has a favourite natural walk in their local area. Your experiences and thoughts might inspire others to appreciate nature and consider going for outdoor walks. Thank you, Angela, for starting this conversation.
