Fantasy to Reality Series 1

11th June 2026 Hazel & Beena

When Itty sent me this vibrant coloured pencil artwork of Hazel, I was immediately compelled to share it. Hazel created her first piece with the loving guidance of her mum when she was just three years old—a testament to creativity blossoming early. I look forward to showcasing her artistic journey as an inspiring series on this website.
Hazel’s three coloured-pencil pieces radiate a captivating naivety. In the art world, naive art is not only cherished but often celebrated for its power to evoke wonder and authenticity. Legendary artists like Henri Rousseau, Grandma Moses, Frida Kahlo, and Ivan Generalic are renowned for their naive masterpieces—works that brim with childlike wonder yet profound depth. Most of these artists were self-taught, blending realism with the limitless imagination of fantasy.
When children draw or colour, they are architects of entire fantasy worlds—spaces brimming with charm, innocence, and possibility. Many parents treasure these early creative expressions, preserving them as windows into pure imagination. This raises a profound question: At what point do we trade our fantasy worlds for reality, and does holding onto that imagination protect us in some way? I invite our readers to reflect and share your perspectives on this intriguing topic.
